Hidden Facet Box 4

I thought maybe today, I would tell you a little more about myself…. I graduated at age 38 from the University of Southern Maine with a BA in Studio Art. (My diploma says BFA, but I don’t think I had enough credits, tried to correct with administrators but it’s still there.) It only took me 19 years to finish what I started, teehee. In between the 19 years, I worked for United Airlines for 17 years first as a customer service rep and then a flight attendant.

It wasn’t the most fulfilling career, but I was able to travel! I’ve been to every state in the nation and also traveled internationally which was awesome! After 9-11, I realized it was time for a change and I went back to school, this time to finish my education.

My husband, daughter and I moved to Denver, CO right after I graduated. I was really good at school and coming off the momentum that I had worked up, I applied to the University of Colorado at Denver for their graduate landscape architecture program. I was looking for a creative program and also a possible career to replace the income I had given up when I left United.

I started last fall and it was tough! By December last year, I had made myself physically ill from burning the midnight oil too long. I’m also a mom and am married and those obligations didn’t stop when I started school. I couldn’t keep up. I decided to take a leave and figure out what it is that I want out of life.

This box is from LA studio 1, and I liked making this. Of all my school assignments last fall, I loved the creative process of making things, making a concept- physical. I suppose that is why I’m back at trying to make art my focus. This is constructed from museum board and sobo glue, It is 4″ x 4″ not including the protrusions, the piece to the side is a cradle that I constructed for the box.
