Before and After

A couple of weeks ago, I added a slide show that featured a technique using shellac to create a carved like texture in clay. It is one of my favorite techniques to add interest to a thrown ceramic pot and to simulate a carved appearance in clay. This pot has been bisque fired and ready to show and tell. Once the pot is fired in the kiln, the shellac burns away leaving just the raised surface where it was once painted on the surface.
The next step is to quickly sand it by hand to remove any roughness, choose a glaze and then back in the kiln to be fired at a higher temperature. The texture will cause the glaze to “break” over the raised surfaces leaving an interesting yet subtle design. In a few weeks, I will show the finished piece after it has been glazed.
Must go now, I have an interview for a job this morning and need to get ready….

Can’t wait to see the finished product! I’m fascinated by the glazes; the aqua glazed piece, from your “. . . Blog Today?” post is fabulous! Also, congrats on doing well at the Market!
