Squash Blossom
Originally uploaded by cmg art.

I think my painting challenge is having the effect that I was looking for…I’m painting more! Granted, the 30 Day Challenge has only begun, but I feel better all ready!

Squash Blossom is a painting for an eBay art group called ART Squared. The criteria for Art2 is that works of art be in a square format up to 14inches. Every month Art Squared has an art squared theme week and challenges its members to create a work of art around the chosen theme. June’s theme is “Garden Veggies”.

I chose to paint the prolific squash plant. All of a sudden, I am seeing its blossoms everywhere.

The auction will run on eBay for 1 week starting today. All work starts at $4.99 + postage.

Echinacea ACEO #3
Originally uploaded by cmg art.

I painted this ACEO yesterday using acrylic on 140 lb. cold press water color paper. This is also sealed with an archival varnish. Echinacea, also known as purple cone flower, is beautiful and also known for its medicinal uses.

I thought flowers and fruit would be a great subject matter to start with. Here is a little known fact that some of you who have been reading my blog for a little while may not know about me. I became a master gardener in Denver County last year and attended a semester of graduate school in landscape architecture last fall. I no longer attend landscape architecture school for a number of reasons, but one of them is because it was more about design and less about the plants!

I love plants and when I garden I think of them much like an artist thinks about tubes of paint. I liken gardening to painting the landscape with color and texture.

Echinacea is currently being auctioned on eBay.
