Tiger Lily
Originally uploaded by cmg art.

Today is my mom’s birthday…I hope you have a great day!

Thank you, Lynette, for sharing the photograph of your gigantic, “Little Shop of Horrors” tiger Lily with me! I loved the bright orange color and the terrific black spots on this flower that she is growing in her Virginia garden. Lynette was kind enough to allow me to use this photograph as reference for today’s painting. Lynette is a fellow artist and very talented, so if you have a moment, check out her blog too!

This painting is 3.5 x 2.5 inches, acrylic on 140# paper. Lynette has the tiger lily photograph posted on her blog right now…I have taken some creative liberties re-interpreting the flower to heighten the sense of color and by cropping the image to fit on my mini canvas.

I know I had more to say today….

This is available to purchase via auction.

Shells #18
Originally uploaded by cmg art.

I didn’t paint this morning as I had intended to…a friend of mine who recently had her 3rd baby called and we scheduled an impromptu lunch date. The baby is now 6 weeks old and I still haven’t seen her, so my daughter and I met her and the children at a restaurant. I had also given her a painting for her new baby’s room and she brought it along so that I could personalize it for her and also seal it with varnish.

I was running low on varnish which necessitated a run to the art supply store. Very dangerous! I bought some kamar varnish and also some new smaller brushes (a #0 and a #2 round) and mini 2 ” x 2″ stretched canvases! They’re so cute!

Finally, around 7pm this evening, I painted 2 shells that I have sitting on my window sill. The subject matter was suggested by my husband who thinks fruit is boring! These were a good challenge though, so I should thank him. I was also able to use my new brushes. If you’re reading this Lynette, I already downloaded the Tiger Lily and will paint it tomorrow! Thanks again.
