I know it’s old, but I decided to post this because it is a companion piece to another figurative painting that I recently wrote an entry about on blogger. Perhaps owing to the models pose, I thought he looks rather vulnerable. His zaftig frame and long hair also lends an air of ambiguity as to the model’s gender.

I haven’t made any new pieces of art work in the past couple of weeks because I got out of the groove…went on vacation and now I am enjoying the last few days of summer with my daughter before school starts next Monday! I have new pieces in the developmental stages and just need the time and focus to start working on them.

I saw an interesting movie last night and if you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. It’s out on DVD since 2005 and I am so far behind on movies that it’s new to me. The movie is M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. I’m not normally drawn to horror films, but was pleasantly shocked/surprised by the twist of events in the movie. The actual horror is a rather telling commentary that I can’t divulge just in case you haven’t seen the movie!

Cyn this is a very powerful painting and very well done! Maybe you can get back in the painting swing after school gets started. Hey we saw that movie ‘The Village’ a couple of years ago and it is so very eerie with some very strange twists and turns. I would love to see it again!

Like the painting and you are right, a sense of vulnerability. I like the colours, the form and the composition. I understand what you mean about getting out of the groove, but also I think a break is a good thing.
I saw “the Village” and it is more a metaphor using horror as a vehicle, but I don’t think it really is a horror movie in the classical sense. I think that is why many were disappointed when they saw it. I really enjoyed his new one “lady in the water” but it has been getting very bad reviews. It is a bedtime story with a bit horror, a bit magic and a bit humour.

Thanks Lyn and JB! I liked the 6th Sense which is why I picked The Village up too. I try not to pay attention too much to the reviews, it’s a bit like art and very subjective. I’ll have to look for “lady in the water” when it comes out on dvd.
