Recycling trash into art

I recently joined an art group called Found Art thanks to a cyber friend of mine, Jafabrit, who posted about the group in her blog. It’s an intriguing concept/group whose mission it is to spread goodwill through random acts of art. Essentially, artists create something and then leave the art work for someone else to find, keep and/or pass on to someone else. It was started by a woman, who post 9-11, wanted to do something positive in her own way. Art has the ability to heal and that is the premise behind the Found Art group’s philosophy.

I latched on to the sentiment right away. Create something for someone else without the expectation of payment or even acknowledgment. Release it into the wild and hope that it finds an appreciative home.

Jafabrit asked me the other day when I was going to create something. I’ve been thinking about it and looked no further than my recycling bin. I am going to do some experiments in paper mache. I am using cardboard and creating mini shrines which I will cover in paper mache, paint and add little mementos. I also am going to be making some mini accordian books.

Beginning next week, I will begin leaving my little shrines in and around Denver, CO.

Wow, what a cool idea, can’t wait to see what you create.

Reminds me of the concept of the movie “Pay if Forward”. :)

Lyn, I’m still working on finishing these…seems like my daughter’s school started and I have a ton of appointments to catch up on!
