Orange Cannas aceo #30
Originally uploaded by cmg art.

So, today, I finally felt like painting again. It’s almost been 30 days since I finished my last painting, that I felt like I had to re-acquaint myself with my paints and brushes. It wasn’t terribly difficult though! One big source of inspiration today was the floral display at the local park where I exercise. The flowers are at their peak right now and are simply amazing.

There is one section that stops me in my tracks everytime I see it. The floral garden is divided into several 10 x 20 feet plots and there is some symmetry involved with the planting design. Each half mirrors the other half. The particular one that I find stunning, both in color choice and contrast and plant “interestingness” is depicted in this mini painting today. Towering 7 feet tall orange cannas are surrounded by purple statice. The cannas are unlike any I’ve seen before. The stalks and flowers are orange and the plant sports variagated orange, yellow, red and green leaves.

After I stood gazing at them today for a long time, I came home and decided I had to try to capture their essence. This mini painting is done from memory and is #30 in my ACEO painting series. It is acrylic on paper and measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches.

I also managed to paint a poppy…same dimensions. Stay tuned for some miniature fiber art and some paper mache shrines!

Both of these are available to purchase via eBay.
