The Jell-O Girl in September

I was productive in the studio yesterday and finished one paper mache shadow box that I had begun during the summer. I’m about 3/4ths finished with the larger shrine type shadow box, and I am really having a lot of fun with these projects! This is roughly 3″ x 4″ x 1″, constructed with cardboard, newspaper, wire, collage and acrylic paints.

I used a vintage Jell-O advertisement as the background for the inside of my shadow box. When I first pulled it out, I thought, “oh no, I can’t use this it’s too precious!” Do you ever do that? I collect all these odds and ends, but then hesitate to use them at all. I have a confession to make, I horde stuff that I may never use in my lifetime. Here’s me talking to self: “Self, it’s okay to use this stuff…!”

Meanwhile, other than this post, I’m not getting a whole lot done today. I had a DRs appointment in the am and have been babysitting for my neighbor who has the most adorable 6 month old baby girl, whose name is Zoe. I was a little nervous at first since my daugther is almost 9 now. I haven’t touched a diaper, bottle etc. etc. in quite some time now. Must get back to the baby….

This is quite nice. Is this going to be left around town?

Cool idea! I would love to do something like that. If I could ever find the time!!

Thanks for commenting on my blog! :)

Hey Janet, welcome back! I had something else in mind for my found art objects…they’re smaller paper mache pieces, that I’m going to turn into accordian style books. I should do that today when I get back from school! This one is currently sitting in my kitchen and my daughter wants to put it in her room!

Hi Paula, it is a little time consuming waiting for everything to dry, but also fun! I was very into model making when I was in landscape arch. school.

This is very charming Cynthia and I also like your contour drawings. Those are good!

This is wonderful - I love it!

    The jello box is perfect.

These are fabulous - I love everything about them! And I know what you mean about not wanting to use the things saved up for some rainy day. Today was cleaning day for me and I find myself constantly just moving “stuff” around. Can’t get rid of anything! I’m glad you took the leap because the vintage jello ads are so wonderfully complimented in your artwork!

Hi, Cynthia! I stopped by to add something to the comment I left yesterday, and I can’t find it!

Oops! Some confused person is probably reading it, right now, thinking, “Jell-O? Shadowbox? Huh???”

Anyway, I love this piece! I have a particular fondness for samll shadowboxes, and this one is very sweet, indeed!

You’re always so busy with new things — I’m exhausted just seeing all your recent projects!

It’s such a kick to stop by and see what you’re up to!

Thanks Mary! I really enjoyed the drawing exercise and am slowly working through my UFOs. I just recently decided that I need to finish some of these before I move on.

Hello and thanks, Fav…I tried going to your blog, but blogger said that your profile wasn’t found. I’ll have to try again!

    Thanks for the comments
Jessica…it is hard for me to let these little bits and pieces go, but, at least they’re out from hiding in some box now!

Hi again W.J. I got a good laugh just thinking about who might be scratching their head thinking “jell-o?” I guess it’s all possible in blogging land! I really think I have artistic ADHD! I like to go from one medium to another. I really should try to concentrate a little harder. You’re no slouch yourself in the production department!
