I’m so sad…my computer crashed this weekend and I lost everything I had stored on it! We have an external hard drive, and yet I was so lax and didn’t back up my documents and pictures. This ought to teach me a valuble lesson. Don’t do what I did, make sure you’ve backed everything up!
I also made a mistake. I reinstalled Windows XP, instead of doing a recovery and now my computer is all caddywampus. I am afraid I’m going to have to bring it to a professional to get back everything I’ve lost. My computer is only 1 1/2 yrs. old, otherwise I would replace it. I managed to hook it up to the internet and reinstalled all my old programs, but it isn’t wireless anymore, and I no longer have a sound card and am getting error messages all over the place.
What did I do? I allowed my daughter to install a game on my computer and it didn’t quite install completely. I then found out that she didn’t shut the computer down correctly. When I turned it on, it was prompting me to turn it on in safe mode, yet it wouldn’t boot up, it kept looping.
I still have 2 older computers to work on, but it’s not the same.
UPDATE: I managed to reinstall most of the drivers now and I am wireless once again, have sound, resolution is normal and more. Whew, what a relief! I’m still missing all my documents and picture files, and maybe someday when I’m feeling flush, I’ll pay a pro do a retrieval. It’s amazing how much I rely on my computer day to day. What did I do before I was wired?

Ouch.
I know…this whole debacle has occupied more of my time than I care to admit in the past 3 days!
What a bummer….glad to see you’re back to wireless and functioning again.
Oh that is terrible, all your images and documents arg! You must have been SO bummed. Glad you got the computer up and running again. Well I am off to back up my documents today.
Things are better now…and I am running again, but you know that feeling that something’s changed? I have it. I’ll feel better after a few weeks of normal operation.
OMG Cyn that’s a terrible thing to happen!! Was there a virus in the game possibly? It happened to us several years ago when we somehow got infected by a really bad virus, ugh!
Hey Lyn, I don’t think it was a virus, I keep my software up to date and run a scan every week. I also have firewall up at all times, and keep my wireless secured. I just think it’s windows.
