New Trays WIPs

This will be a super quick post this morning. I just wanted to share a couple of handbuilt trays that I’m working on this week. I rolled a number of clay slabs out on Wednesday at the Art Student’s League and brought them home to work on. Within 4 hours times, they had dried too much to make what I had originally intended, so I had to improvise and make fairly flat objects with my slabs. I settled on 2 trays, a shallow bowl, a set of chop stick rests and 5 spoon rests. I applied a aqua blue slip to the trays and will be sgraffito-ing (is that even a word?) the trays this morning.
I also had a successful glaze firing at the league and as soon as I photograph the work will share those photos with you too - maybe this weekend.
I had intended to get a lot done yesterday, but instead got sucked into cyber-space. So, after writing this post, I will not be signing back on today. I say this for myself, because I need more computer discipline!
Paula was kind enough to feature me on her blog yesterday, so if you want to know even more about me, head on over to Manning-Lewis Studios. While you’re there, check out Paula’s beautiful spiral abstract paintings, thanks Paula!
PS It’s officially spring - mother nature must know because all of a sudden the forsythias and magnolias are in full bloom!

Oh Cynthia your trays are beautiful. I love them.
Good luck with the computer discipline … it’s too easy to get sucked in.

Drat, blogger erased my post when I tried to post it! Oh well, don’t want to rewrite it all, in any case, thanks for the link and have a wonderfully productive day!!!

What outstanding work you do. I just loved the interview!
Even if they dried to much and you couldn’t do what you intended to do on them. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! WONDERFUL JOB!

Oh to be disciplined. We have had cable problems lately, so I have cut back also. But I think that the arrival of spring FINALLY will be the best motivator to pull myself away from the screen.

Loving those trays! I so like the top one with the flowers from your crayon paintings. Read the interview, that was real good, and I learned more about you…which is also very good. Cool beans!

Oh I can’t wait to see how these turn out. Gorgeous designs!
Do you plan on posting these for sale in your Etsy shop? I’m going to need to start saving!

Thanks Nancy - the computer discipline worked pretty well yesterday! I got a lot done.
I know what you mean Paula, I’ve gotten into the habit of copying my posts before I hit submit.
Thanks Angela!
I’m so ready for Spring, Janet…I can’t even tell you how much. It’s been in the 60-70s the past few days and I am loving it.
Thanks Heather, Amber and Diana. I don’t think that I’m going to be selling larger work on Etsy, Amber. The shipping would be really high. I would have to double box - but never say never. I’ll have to figure out a way to make it economical.
