F.E.A.R.

F is for Feral. E is for Effervescent. A is for Anger. R is for Survivability.

He’s quite an amicable and sophisticated fellow, don’t you think?

My effigy doll bits and pieces survived the kiln firing back in July and this afternoon, I decided to craft a body for him. Why is my doll a he you ask? I dunno, it just seemed right to me at the time. Maybe a yang to my yin or something…

Anyway, my journey began with no pattern, simply a head, feet, and hands. As he began to appear, I just knew this fellow, otherwise conceived as fear, was very suave and needed a smoking jacket and cravat. It couldn’t be otherwise. Needless to say, F.E.A.R. is often colorful and very in your face – in other words, hard to ignore…

Once finished, he needed a name. I couldn’t voice my inner most concerns without calling him by his birth name! Garth? No. Goth? No. Ogre? No, too ominous… “Harry”, I suggested to my daugher, alluding to her otherwise favorite make believe character,? NO! “How about Larry”, she responded. Yah, apparently his name is Larry! No offense to any Larries out there, but he’s awesome! Who can voice their fears to him without at least smiling at the pompous lout?? Well, apparently, I can’t.

I invite everyone to craft a doll – share your inner most secrets and reservations with your creation because it’s highly liberating! If you don’t like mine, check out Jafabrit’s or Bad Kitty’s dolls for a different take. Thanks JB for pointing out the cool music widget!

  • oh cynthia, that is just tooooooooooooooo cool, I love it. I love the pose and the setting, with a little ceramic pot sitting on the table no less :)
How did you do the eyes?
Where are you going to keep her/him/your alter ego?

Great choice of music, really sets the mood.

NExt entry I will do the doll links too :)

Love Larry. I can see where telling him all your fears and woes would be great therapy. I once found a Disney Mickey Mouse on the beach, about 6″ tall. I’ve told him a trouble or two in my day… workes great… but would he have been better at the job if I would have made him????

  • Well, Cynthia,
It’s not a doll, but a beaded page for the BJP that I did because of your wonderful comment way back, when. I’ll be showing it on my page today or Sunday. Not sure which as it is busy here this week. It will have the explanation also.

I love Larry F.E.A.R.L. myself! I think he is smug, pompous and full of himself. He hasn’t a clue, his doom is nigh!

  • wow, larry is very sophisticated, down to how he sits, with his legs crossed. i thought he would be intimidating, but totally not! he’s even a bit cute :o )

  • He was very fun to make and his little doll parts were talking, no begging me to complete him everytime I walked by.

He is currently sitting comfortably in his wicker settee in the front entry, Jafabrit. Though I might have to move him for the home tour – he might creep people out a bit. His eyes are red beads glued with e-6000 into his eye sockets. I was going to choose green, but my daughter said he needed red ones.

Hehehehehe, Nancy – whatever works for you is perfect! I imagine that when I tell Larry about some deep seated fear, He’ll respond, “Dahling, is it taking away your oxygen?”

Looking forward to seeing your post, Mary. He is sort of pompous – but in a campy fun way…

Glad you like him Chi, I was scouring my daughter’s Barbie/doll house for a glass, because I thought he needed a martini beside him. It’s hard to be intimidating wearing pink don’t you think?

  • This is an overpowering doll but very stately and not scary, I would say sort of regal. I love it and the music was a very plaesant surprise as your blog opened.

  • What a hoot! Larry looks SO like an actor/critic I used to know, right down to the bright pink shirt (silk, of course!) and cravat.
And my doll? Still waiting for my machine to be fixed;next week, I hope.

  • I love Evanescence, Diana!

    Thanks Mary – he’s not too scary…

Teehee, Janet – actually now he’s got at least 10 girlfriends named “Barbie”! My daughter has been playing with him (which is no doubt terribly humiliating for him).

Very funny, Dinah! He does look like an actor/critic!

  • How kewl! That’s how some of my works start as well. They aren’t really planned. I just go with the flow. Anyway, wonderful doll! :)
    *HUGS*

  • He’s amazing, extremely gorgeous, and very evocative. I totally see the actor/critic correlation dinahmow made.
I’m just in the process of nutting out an idea for a worry doll for my mum so really appreciate seeing what you ladies have done.

I love Larry. Maybe we can all convert FEAR into lots of Larry’s – the world would be a better place don’t you think.

  • Most of the time, I go with the flow too, Angela – it works for me. Although other people I know, are total planners and when we get together, I drive them crazy.

I’m growing very fond of my doll, Denise! My husband made a comment that my dolls head was too small for his body and I got very defensive of Larry.

I agree Mudheart – fear is a terrible way to live!

  • It was fun checking in today to see what you have been up to. Love Larry! I used to make dolls and every so often one turns up and I remember the people who were around and the events of that time in my life. They have become almost like a journal or a blog, even!

  • Hey Emm, Larry is my first doll, and I can’t say that I plan to make anymore, but maybe someday I’ll feel the urge. I suppose you could say that he fulfilled the need to try my hand at making dolls.
