Magic Ponies

Self Portrait, computer generated. You too can make your own self portrait by visiting Mr. Picasso Head.

One might say, I’ve had entirely too much time on my hands the past 2.5 weeks during my daughter’s winter break from school. I stumbled for about an hour one day and came across this fun little website. Surprisingly, I had a lot of busy work to do during the break and blissfully managed to avoid a good bit of it. Sometimes it’s good to have no plan or require anything of yourself in order to recharge the old batteries. Now, I’m playing catch up. Tomorrow brings my family back to some sort of a routine, which is necessary for me to be more productive.

Meanwhile, I was reading my copy of Sierra – the Sierra Club’s, bi-monthly publication, yesterday and came across a little article by Paul Rauber, titled Magic Ponies: Everyone wants an easy solution that really stuck out given my last couple of week’s rants, here, here and here.

I want a Magic Pony, but know they don’t exist. Sometimes, it sucks to grow up. So, what’s an environmentally minded gal and artist to do? I’ll leave you with an excerpt of Paul’s article:

For our part, the Sierra Club is calling for a 2% reduction in carbon emissions every year. Lacking a magic pony, we’re left with the advice a veteran Alaska bush pilot gave to a vistor worried about what to do if approached by a grizzly: “Son, do the best you can.” Originally published in Sierra Magazine January/February 2008, written by Paul Rauber

I’m starting small – here in my own home and studio. Stay tuned for how I plan to green my home and studio just a little bit more….

In other news, I received a call last night from the membership chair of the Colorado Potter’s Guild, and have an interview lined up two weeks from now.

À bientôt,

Cynthia

  • Mr Picasohead is fun.
Watched Ratatouille this weekend and Gusteau(sp?) the chef wrote a book “Anyone Can Cook”– which was repeated through out the movie.

Mr. Picasohead should make everyone feel like they can be an artist. :-)

  • I’ll have to check out the Picasso thing, looks fun. Congrat’s on the interview…this is the one right, the one that lets you know if you made it “in”. I know you’ll ace it.
I’m doing more green research right now too…did you know there is a yearly grant system in CO for homeowneres to go solar? I think it’s 10K for each home owner…check it out. Millionpanels.org I think it is…you can find it through the .gov searchable database too.

  • I really enjoyed Ratatouille too, Janet and Jafabrit! We see most of the kid’s movies and I always appreciate the adult humor. I’ve always believed that (your last statement) – the one thing not everyone has, however, is stamina! :D

Hey, you look like me, Diana! Except of course in technicolor…

Thanks Shawn and Heather, this is the interview. They’re checking my references right now and then I also have to have 4 of my pieces on display for a couple of weeks before the final decision is handed down.

I actually checked about solarizing our home and more specifically my studio, Heather. I’m waiting to find out whether or not we’re going to stay here or move into a home we’ve been renting out for the past 10 years before making the investment. Solar power is a no brainer here in CO where we have over 300 days of sunshine a year.

The company we looked at is still hooked into the grid, but if a homeowner produces surplus power, you get a rebate from the electric company.

  • Now – it’s for real Jean – back to work! :D

You’ll be the first to know if I get in or don’t get in to the guild.

  • I watched ‘Emma’ last night as I’m a Jane Austin fan and who can ever get enough Jane stuff? Not me.

I’m looking forward to your greening your home.
