I’m moving!
Hi all – I feel so neglectful for not posting in a few days – but, I’ve been very very busy. I’m not out in the studio, but I am on the computer. Yesterday, I spent almost 12 hours wrestling with Adobe Golive setting up a new site. Nothing like just doing it to learn how to use the software. I built a fairly simple site – nothing flashy and downright minimalist. I wanted a clean look with not a lot of bells and whistles. I hope to tweak it a bit more today and then upload to my new host.In other news, I am also moving my blog to WordPress from Blogger. I have been meaning to do it for sometime now – in fact I’ve had an account at WordPress for over a year, but have done nothing with it. I did check out Vox, Movable Type and Typepad before settling on WordPress. While Adobe does offer editing for Movable Type in Golive, WordPress is very easy to use. I was inspired by Heather over at Bad Kitty Art Studio who recently moved to WordPress. My decision was cemented when I saw that she was able to import all her blogger posts and comments to WordPress. The downside is that my counter will reset on my blog – but it shouldn’t affect my website since it is the same domain. I know just enough about technology to make things work, but am definitely not fluent, so this is all a huge undertaking for me.
Rest assured, when I go live, I will give everyone the links to my new blog and website. As it is, I’m still fiddling around with both.
I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend,
~Cynthia

Moving is a pain, whether down the street, around the corner, cross country or in cyber space.
I spend 3-4 maybe 5 hrs. working on our brochures, get fed up and walk away. Then when you put all those hrs. together it`s amazing what you can come up with. It all just takes time. Can`t wait to see what you come up with.

Good luck with that… I generally don’t like wordpress because you have to fill in the form to leave a comment. I’m lazy, which is why I kept my blog hosted on blogger. I think it’s much more reliable, and no one has to change their bookmarks. However, I will patiently await your new link, and update it in my google reader.

Good luck with putting together the new site. Hey, if you really want to go hardcore with the blog, you should do your own install of WordPress (wordpress.org, not wordpress.com)… then you’ll really be geeking out!

Word Press make sit easy! I’m really happy for you, diving into the deep end of the “code” thing is not easy. Yippee! Can’t wait to see what you did with your site, I am re-vamping mine again…for the third time in ten months, trying to get it right….but it’s hard to do well.

So true, John! I couldn’t see straight anymore, last night when I finally signed off around 11pm. Today, however, I have fresh eyes and am referencing one of my books for some more things.
I used to be in agreement with you, Diana, but wordpress is much more user friendly. I generally type in “remember” me when I post on someone who uses a different platform.
I am geeking out – Dan – I downloaded wordpress.org but have a bit of a learning curve, so I’ll play with it awhile before making that switch. ;D
You’re right in a way Janet – but why do we do anything? I like the interface of wordpress – though vox won me over too. Part of it was that my webhost has a fast wordpress upload so that I can host my blog on my domain. Blogger is very familiar to me, but it’s time to move to something that’s going to work better for me.
I’m so glad you were my guinea pig, Heather – I mean that in a good way too!
After I saw your blog and how you transferred all your posts, I was won over. Thank you!

I’m thinking of going to WordPress as I have a site there and it seems just as easy. I’m sure there are pros and cons to all of them, but I can hardly wait to see all the ‘new’ stuff.

Cynthia, what a brave one you are! Can’t wait to see your new site.
Will we need to re-subscribe when you move your blog to WordPress?

Let me be your guinea pig, Mary! I’m trying to think of everything before I go “live”.
Jean – I’m not sure, I’m going to sign into my feed and see if I can transfer my subscribers.

Congrats on the move. I love wordpress. The akismet spam filter rocks and is worth the move on it’s own. Bye bye word verification!

I think my (limited) understanding of Old English and Old Norse is some way ahead of this stuff! A geek? Moi?
Good luck anyway and I’ll call back later…

How is wordpress more user friendly than blogger?? just curious…

That’s good to know Lisa – I looked at the filter, but haven’t added yet. But now I will. I hate the word verification thingy.
hehehe, Dinahmow – limited understanding of Norse. You have a way with words.
It just is, Diana – you can set up a play site yourself just to check it out. I’ll give you one example – I messed up and confused my user name with my blog name. I was bumming thinking I wouldn’t have the url that I wanted. (though it doesn’t really matter since I’m eventually going to host it myself) and with the click of a button, I changed the name of my blog and the url instantly changed before my eyes. The other ease of use is changing themes or skins seamlessly without loosing stuff, having to back up your template etc. I am still getting used to it, because as with anything new, there is a learning curve. Oh – here’s a really cool thing – you blog can have pages like a website. So you can have an about me page, and other tidbits that you want people to know about and think are important. I currently have 3 pages – an about me page, home or blog page and a links page. There’s so much more that I’m learning as I go.

It sounds like a great move for you. If any one can make it go easy, you can. You are such a go get it done person. What a good thing to be. Nice to be so techy, I can’t even add links without making it a big deal.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with on wordpress.

Oooh, can’t wait to see all the new stuff you’re setting up! I’m definitely geeky enough to be excited by this!
