Moving anywhere, including somewhere else in cyberspace is hard work. My advice to anyone contemplating the same is to think wisely and be prepared to invest time and patience into the endeavor. I don’t want to reveal the link yet to my new blog since I haven’t decided whether or not to host my own wordpress blog, or to use the infinitely easier and user friendly one on wordpress.com site. I would hate to have everyone update their links, only to move again.
I currently have both types of blogs set up - but am wrestling with all types of code issues on my hosted site trying to make it look just right. I thought I was pretty savvy, but it turns out I have a lot to learn.
Having a wordpress.com site is very easy and intuitive - but the obsessive compulsive person inside of me wants to host my own blog. Hmm… what to do, what to do? I have a busy week coming up, so I’m going to delay the reveal until later this week when I can devote more time to the project. Maybe Wordpress for Dummies by Lisa Sabin-Wilson will help me.

Right now, I have to get into the studio and throw some pieces to include in the Guild’s free gas firing next weekend since I’ve pretty much neglected everything else for the past week while obsessing over my new website and blog. The guild is having an in house workshop on how to fire their new gas car kiln. Since I’ve only fired electric kilns, it’s a lesson I don’t want to miss. Gas firing opens up a whole new world in ceramics.
Meanwhile, I haven’t forgotten about anyone and have been checking in - though maybe not commenting. I hope to get back to my regularly scheduled life soon.
Until then, toodles

miss you!!!
I know that feeling about obsessing on one project arg! Like you I seem to have been so tied up lately and it has been hard to visit all my regular and fave blogs. So I sure understand.
Having said that I need to get of the net and into the studio and start working on my Doll show pieces.
Love the moving stuff picture. Even in cyberspace it`s a big project. You`ll love gas!
Good luck with your blog decisions. And, that’s why I only changed the domain of my blog. It was a lot of work just to do that!
I miss you too Judi - I hope you experienced the best of what Colorado has to offer while you were here!
I know what you mean Jafabrit - I need to get off the computer and into the studio more than I am doing right now. I look forward to seeing your Doll Show pieces.
I threw 4 bowls last night that I’m hoping I can get bisqued in time for the gas firing next weekend, John -
I think I’ve come up with a good solution for the time being, Diana on the blog deal. I don’t think I’m going to host it at the moment - but created a subdomain where I can point the wordpres.com site.
Not that i wouldn’t follow you everywhere Cynthia, but are you sure you want to do this wordpress move?
In my travels around the internet, i’ve observed that photos posted to wordpress sites aren’t always as crisp as they can be . . . .
Perhaps, my sights just a bit blurry from too much online studying . . . . Still . . . .
And — just being nosey here — what prompted your decision to change?
Hugs
Chae
haha~nice blog, just want to say well done
Glad to know that you are still plugging along on the new site and all. I would suggest that you can always host your own blog later in the process? Keep it easy and get that web site done first, the blog is an add-on the site is the main sales tool…just my 2 cents is all. Good luck on all the code stuff, it makes me want to tear out my hair, and I am pretty savvy too…but I know nothing about CSS…only java, and html. So, I look into the wordpress code and shiver. If I can’t find a pre-written widget…then forget about it…I don’t want to learn a new computer code right now, I have painting to do! ARGH! LOL
Good warning! I tend to tread where angels fear! Thanks for the cautionary statement. Blogger is easy!
How brave of you…. doing all that moving. I am terrified of any change I have to make on the computer … eek. I have a lot of faith in you, you’ll do it and do it well. You go Girl!
Chae - I’ve been asking myself the same question now for the past couple of weeks. That being said, I should have switched last year when I originally set up my account - but now know what I want so it’s time. Wordpress is easy to use - I like the interface and the ability to customize it easily. The built in spam control is great too.
Thanks Ericka…
I think that’s where I’m headed Heather - the other stuff is proving to be more time intensive than I imagined.
Blogger is easy, Mary - and comfortable for me. You are fearless, Mary!
Thanks Nancy
I am like you, I decide I need a change and then it’s the twilight zone!
Cyn, I know you’ll figure it out and your new blog will look amazing too! I’m scared to mess with anything on my blog and I’m a tech dummy for sure. Much good luck and let us know when you get your new link.
:)
What a great job Cynthia - well don!
I must admit I really do like an organized Wordpress blog. Its navigation is far better than blogger however I am hesitant to change with over ten thousand hits on my blog last year I am fearful of loosing that traffic. It is a good idea to set things up wel from the start and a blog in your main domain is good for your traffic to your domain when your seb site is up and running so you did the right thing.
Wishing you the best of success with your new platform.
Kayleen
You are so right, Kayleen - if I had known from the beginning, I would have set my blog up on my domain from the start, but hind sight is 20/20 as they say.
I had 46,000+ hits when I decided to move. I was able to transfer my counter over but have lost traffic as you can imagine. I’ve gone from @ 200 hits a day to anywhere from 60-100. So - not too bad, but a significant drop.
