What a great weekend for an outdoor art festival! It was a bit hot, but otherwise perfect weather and crowds for the weekend.
I originally wanted to have a solo booth, but realized early in the spring that I wouldn’t have enough work to fill a booth. I was asked to share a booth which turned out to be the perfect option for me. I shared a booth with Joe, Ross and Jane, all members of the Art Student’s League of Denver. Our work is all so different to so I thought we really complimented each other. Joe makes some amazing sculptures from clay, Ross makes these crazy clay masks and Jane makes beautiful sculptural and mostly functional pieces from clay.
Some of my work
Last year, I took an art marketing class online taught by Alyson Stanfield and talked with many other artists virtually, meaning we have never actually met each other in person. Our class formed a Google group after the class was over since we didn’t want to let go of the camaraderie that had developed over the course of the month we spent together. This past weekend, I got to meet one of the members of the group in person! Peggy recently relocated from North Carolina to Colorado and popped into my booth on Sunday afternoon to say “Hi”. It was so fun to meet her! In addition to meeting Peggy, I also met Annie Chrietzberg on Saturday and will be spending the day with her next Saturday taking one of her hand-building workshops. I can hardly wait!
Meanwhile, I’m going to spend this next week making some new lino-cuts to use in my ceramic work. I have a lot of ideas that I’m going to start sketching and will post some photos when I start carving. I like to use golden linoleum for my ceramics. It’s soft enough to cut, yet sturdy and will hold up to under clay and moisture.
Have a good week everyone!
~Cynthia
P.S. The market was a little slower than last year. I credit that to the economy and the fact that Sunday was Father’s Day. I still have some ceramic boxes and other work that I will be photographing and slowly listing in my Etsy Shop over the next week.

Wow! You look great, and so do the booths!
Looks like you all had a great time! And that booth looks so nice with the broad range of work!
I sounds like you had a fantastic weekend. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and managed to meet up with some old friends.
It was a good weekend – I can’t believe how fast it went by! Thanks for the comments
How cool! I haven’t heard that Peggy moved to CO, but it’s so neat to see the photo of the two of you. (I assume that’s her.) I’m bummed I didn’t get to visit the Art Market. I really need to see your work in person. When’s my next chance?
Nice booth set up. Everything looks so well coordinated. I was thinking your boxes were larger. Lovely color.
Hi Alyson, yes that’s Peggy! She just moved here a couple of months ago from NC. Right now, I’m doing the Colorado Potter’s Guild show in November – trying to decide on fall/holiday shows. If you happen to be in Aspen, one of my pieces will be auctioned off in August benefiting Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
Thanks Janet – some of them are larger. I think I’m going to switch to stoneware clay so that I can get larger. The porcelain slumps and warps more than I’d like it to.
Whew! You have been so busy girl! Thanks so much for the comments you’ve sent me. Those hugs were the best. Exciting summer is it not?
Nice to see photos of you and your boothmates, you look great.
I love the booth arrangement and the white grid background squares – wondering how the grids are assembled; are they one piece or hinged or what? Perfect neutral background to enhance all the ceramics.
Waiting to see what comes up on Etsy – hopefully one of your boxes.
I use the Ash White stoneware,(from mile high pricy at 17.00 a bag) and it seems to do large better like the Big Planter boxes for Destiny Ranch. Throws well too but I have a problem with large bowls and s cracks with that stoneware. Otherwise I can whip out mugs, tumblers, etc no problem. Thanks Cynthia for allowing me to learn along with you in your blog. And let me know how the workshop goes with Annie. I wanted to go but I show horses in the summer along with real estate and pottery…doing too much and trying to still have a life. For my larger bowls I am in absolute love with kodiak clay. I love the texture, throwing, and glazes on it but have trouble with planter boxes, it doesn’t set up even on the slab, so the outside is ready but when you start building you find the inside of the slab too soft. The ash really sets up even for larger boxes. Mary
Mary T. – I was so worried about your husband and very glad to know that he’s home from the hospital!
Hey Linda – the wall grids you see in the booth were constructed by my booth mate, Ross. He’s a finish carpenter and he made them for the booth so that he could hang his masks. They’re sweet! It was basically 3 pieces to a wall – they were probably door sized.
Mary – I also use Ash occasionally and really like it to handbuild. But, it still has too much grog in it for me to throw. So, I throw with Aspen porcelain. Nice – but the price just went up on that clay too! Showing horses sounds like fun- but a lot of work too?
That is so neat you got to meet someone from your group
and what a great set up at the art fair.
Nice to see things are going along great for you
