Clay Roulettes Redux

Stamps I sent to 2 EMT members

Clay Roulettes

Several weeks ago, I participated in a stamp exchange with other members of the Etsy Mud Team.  Swaps are fun – you just never know what you’re going to get in return.  I was pretty happy with the ones I received, but didn’t know how the recipients of my stamps/roulettes had used the ones I sent.  Yesterday, the recipient of one of my roulettes, shared some photos of work she has made using a roulette (left one in photo above) I posted last month.  Lisa has really integrated the roulette into her work nicely – take a look at the photos below:

In my opinion, Lisa and her hubby, Alex, are Etsy success stories – they’re really selling a lot of pottery online.  So go on, check out their awesome hand built and wheel thrown work in their Etsy Shop.

But, let’s not stop here…what happens when a clay roulette is “super sized”?

This site was brought to my attention by another fellow Etsy Mud Team Member – pretty dang cool, huh?

Meanwhile, I had hoped to do a ^04 decal firing this afternoon, but it just didn’t happen.  I’ll start the kiln early tomorrow morning – I’m going to bed as soon as the bread is done baking, hence the late (for me) night post.

  • Cyn, I really like that pen pillow and the platter and that tire clay roulette is super looking! Yum, did you mention freshly baked bread, that sounds delicious!

    • I think the pen pillow is pretty cool – I never would have thought of this project! Yep – baking bread – I started making it last fall and now my family won’t eat anything else. It’s so easy and I don’t even have to think about the recipe anymore because I’ve made it so many times now.

  • Cynthia, thanks so much for the mention! We just love the stamps you sent us and are so grateful for this fun way to collaborate. We are stamp people as it is, so this exchange really suited us. By the way, that other roulette… I am definitely covetous!

  • Pen pillow! Wow, I never thought of that. Cool idea. Your post reminds me of a “Stamp Party” one of my pottery pals used to do. We’d all bring stuff to her studio and a gang of us would have a delightful time sharing the goodies we brought to make stamps. At the end of the day, we’d have tons made — and a great time!

  • wow… i love that carved tire (and the ones on the site with mayan glyph-ish carvings), i wonder if michelen would consider a line like that?

    • I haven’t – but I am considering doing some colored porcelain ones this summer – something I don’t have to glaze necessarily because at ^6 it’s too hot and I have a lot of issues during firing.

  • Love the pen pillow, beautiful work and roulettes are a great idea too. I think the supersized tire is cool – I think anything supersized in clay is really something. Thanks for a great post.

    • Thanks Linda – Lisa does nice work! I’m not sure the artist uses the tires as roulettes – but rather installations – but very innovative, don’t you think??
