Rabbit Box and Anniversaries

Rabbit Box

Rabbit Box

I really like this covered stoneware box, unfortunately, this is the only photo I have of it and I didn’t get photographs of the other side.  I like to put different images on each side to keep it fresh.   Why rabbits?  It reminds me – especially this vintage image – of one of my favorite childhood stories…The Velveteen Rabbit published in 1922 by Margery Williams.

Meanwhile, my husband and I are headed downtown tonight to celebrate our 20th anniversary (has it really been 20 years already?) – which isn’t official until May 19th.  Since the 19th is a school night, we’re celebrating early by spending the night at the Hyatt in downtown Denver.  We kicked around several ideas – the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park where Stephen King stayed and was inspired to write The Shining, The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs (another historic hotel) and even some other historic hotels in downtown Denver.  The Hyatt won out because I love their roof top bar that has a view of the mountains and the city – but also because the designers of the hotel decorated each room with individual artist’s work vs. cheesy giclee prints typical of most hotels.

Don’t worry, my sister in law is staying with my daughter and the dogs and they have quite an evening planned from what I understand.

Have a great weekend,

Cynthia

  • Happy Anniversary! We have a black bunny (half Lop) named Bunny Foo-Foo, though my husband named him “lucky bunny” (lucky to be alive…) Someone abandoned him in our garden 8+ years ago as winter was setting in. They are wonderful pets, litter box trained etc. though his chewing has forced him to live in my warm studio since there is no carpet for him to chew. He is free to roam and lives the good life with plenty of fresh veggies and art :o )

Have you seen the Beatrix Potter movie, “Miss Potter” 2006? It’s a story of her life as an illustrator and the challenges of being a female artist in the early days. We really enjoyed it.

    • Great name for a bunny :) Abandoning pets is terrible – Bunny Foo-foo is lucky to have found a home with you!

I loved that movie, Cindy – in fact, I should watch it again soon…I found it very inspirational and also sad.

  • 20 wow that’s clocking some time..congrats…love ya bunny i’m slowly getting together some wares for my decals, boy am i slow or what??

  • *gasp* that rabbit box is just so beautiful! I love the antique look to it.

Happy anniversary! The hotel you have chosen sounds wonderful. I hope you have a really great time.

    • Thanks Linda – loved the hotel…very modern, but I think because we live in a vintage home & neighborhood, it really appealed to us to stay somewhere different.

  • I love it, the whole crossing the corner. I’ve been pondering the word “treatment” as I look at my own work… how are the attachments “treated”, what kind of treatment is given to a edge, etc. etc…. This is a classic example of the perfect solution to “what kind of treatment was given to the pacement of the rabbit?”. Most peerfect!

    • Thanks Keith – I hear you too – I really need to push myself to address all aspects of my work from the making, the attachments, the decoration to create more layers of interest. I suppose it’s an ongoing journey and I don’t feel like I’ve really tackled it yet.

  • We have our 15th on May 21st. Which means we got married the same weekend 5 years after you!!! We had the wedding at the HYATT at Baltimore’s inner harbor which also has a roof top bar. Since NYC is a 35 min ferry ride for us, we are going in there to an amazing restaurant, seeing a. Show and staying over too. My in laws are driving in from cleveland in time to watch the kids over night and then we’ll hang with everyone through the weekend… Must have been a good week(yearly) to get married. Good juju. Right?

    • Happy Anniversary, Judi! Good weekend to get married – I think we got married on a Friday afternoon if I remember correctly. I’d have to consult a calendar…1989 seems like a distant memory now.

It sounds like you have the perfect weekend planned – If we lived in the NYC area, we’d do the same thing. As much as I love my daughter and dogs, it was very enjoyable to get away and do whatever we wanted to for 24 hours.
