I’ve been a little quiet on the blogging front this holiday weekend. I think it’s because my hubby is off work and we’ve been trying to fit some gardening in between thunder storms, playing games, and just hanging out with friends. I did manage to get a little throwing in on Thursday – I realized that only a week remained until the last day of school and decided to throw some mugs for teacher appreciation good bye gifts. I need to attach the handles this morning and then bisque fire tomorrow evening. Nothing like last minute planning…. I suppose worst case scenario, these don’t get fired and I purchase something. I tried, I really did.

Colored porcelain clay
I have also decided to work with some colored porcelain a là Jane Peiser style and dried some slip that I had previously colored with Mason Stains.
Meanwhile, we’ve been making plans for our big trip to Europe this June and spent the early morning looking at apartments for short term rent in Paris. Hubby and I decided to take a short side trip to Paris during the latter half of our trip to Germany – maybe 4-5 nights max. Round trip plane tickets from Frankfurt to Paris on Air France are only $113- per person and by getting an apartment for the 3 of us, we’ll save on dining out expenses. I’ve found some really cool, centrally located pedestrian friendly ones that aren’t terribly expensive – anywhere from 95 – 120 € which I don’t think is terribly bad for Paris. (The exchange rate is currently $1.39 to 1€.)
Gotta go make some handles,
Cynthia
P.S. We’re going to see the new Star Trek movie today – I’ve heard some positive reviews from friends who’ve seen it.

WE went yesterday and both thought it was a fun movie!
And what a great trip you have planned- I can be a little green- well maybe a lot green!
I really enjoyed the movie, Meredith. My husband gave it a B – he prefers the original series better, but thought the producers did as well as they could. I love the special effects. It may have been our rainy day, but I really am sort of looking forward to GI Joe and Transformers. No one else wants to go with me though…
curious to see what you do with the colored porcelain and totally envious of you going to gay paree
Hey Jim – I’m going to make some jewelry with the colored porcelain and am also going to slice some paper thin small slabs of the canes that I plan on making – sort of like poly clay technique except will adhere it to pots. We’ll see though. I saw it done in an old PMI magazine years ago and hung onto the issue.
The trip sounds like it would be cool. The mugs are a good idea and if they don’t get done, you an always sell them. I’m a little tired of rain myself. When is this going to clear out!
I thought the rain was going to clear out today – but alas, it looks like it’s still here this am. I’m trying to enjoy it because I know we’ll be crying for some rain come July/August when it’s 100 degrees in the shade.
What a fun vacation you will have and romantic Paris, too, oo la la. Can’t wait to see your colored porcelain work, those colors you made are lucious. I was at the clay store the other day getting clay and wanted to purchase more mason stains, but they were out of almost every color and I only have blue, green and black. I guess I’ll just have some shipped to me as the weight isn’t that bad for the stains.
I’m really looking forward to going on vacation – though I’m not sure how romantic it will be with an 11 year old tagging along
I just realized now that I need to add to my Mason Stains – it might be something I need to do after I get back from vacation though. I tend to buy them in 1/4 # increments – so not heavy at all….
I failed the spelling bee this time – should be luscious
Didn’t even notice, Linda!
Your energy never fails to amaze me! Teacher mugs, jane Peiser pots, planning a trip to Europe AND taking in a Star Trek movie! Love it! Hey, I got to visit Jane’s studio a couple of years ago. She wasn’t there but me and a pottery pal got to look around and I bought a little mug to take home. I treasure it.
Talk about energy – I love Jane’s work! My ceramic’s mentor turned me onto her work and loaned me a book – maybe a Penland book. Unfortunately, I had to return it.
