Moving…

It looks like we will be moving out of our current home August 14th thanks to a newly signed rental application and that’s almost exactly 2 weeks from now in case you’re wondering whether I’ve done the math correctly or not.  I’m not really too worried about moving our household contents since we’ve been purging on and off for the past few months and have even started packing and bringing stuff over to the new house.

I am worried about my “garagio” though….  One quick look at the photos and I can only exclaim in French (because it’s so much more dramatique), “Quelle horreur!  Mon Dieu – q’est quon peut faire avec cette spectacle?”

I had visions of cranking out a bit more work before the move, but alas, it is not to be so.  Most likely I won’t return to the clay studio until September at the earliest.  It’s a relief to have the house rented, but now comes the unglamorous part of serious packing, moving, cleaning etc.  We are moving to a larger space which includes a oversized 2 car garagio – which translates to a more spacious area for me.  I am also going to be selling an old make that ancient Paragon electric kiln (the same as this ebay listing) that still fires to cone 6 before the move – better write that Craigslist ad.  My firings will be less frequent since it will take more time for me to fill the Skutt 1027, but it makes sense to downsize since I am no longer teaching and anticipate less studio time since I’m going back to school.  First day of school for me is the 17th of August.  Sometimes when it rains, it pours….

I have canceled my commitment to participate in the Farmer’s Market this coming weekend – I think my husband has visions of cleaning out the garage instead.

Meanwhile, we’ve picked out tile, bath fixtures for the bathroom and carpeting for the basement in the last couple of days.  This was fairly easy since I already knew exactly what I envisioned for the house.  It’s a 1911 vintage home and I’m going all white with subway tile for the shower surround and a octagon mosaic like style for the floor.  Pretty traditional and a neutral backdrop for a vintage home.

I’m so trying not to stress right now,

Cynthia

    • It’s all good, Mary – I’m glad that we found someone to rent our house so quickly. I work well under pressure in the studio, so moving quickly should be no big deal…right?

  • IN 2 WEEKS???!!!!! PLUS, don’t you start school soon???

Yesterday we helped our next door neighbor move to a condo they bought across town (we have a truck and strong backs -we are going to miss them a lot!). Thankfully we only hauled the boxes of fragile stuff, antiques etc. with a couple of trips and moving guys did the rest today. My arms are sore and my husband and I kept repeating “thank goodness that’s not us!”

Just repeat over and over, “all is well, all is calm and I am a powerful, creative, multi-tasking, SUPERWOMAN!!”

    • hehehe – I need a mantra and it might as well be this one! ;)

We are going to hire someone to move us over – but we are boxing everything up so it’s ready to go and won’t take terribly long. My studio is going to be a pain because I’ve been collecting bits and pieces here and there to use in the future – you know how that goes…

I’m looking forward to moving – I’m looking at it as an adventure of sorts and yes I do start school the 17th of August which in a way will be good to move before that and not after.

  • Well I hope we can follow right behind you very soon, we have folks coming to look again tomorrow (things seem to be picking up around here) and we have to spruce up the inside and outside again, so no kiln firing tomorrow either, I am going to have to have back to back marathon firings one of these days to get it all done. Good luck with your move. A couple of high school boys can work wonders for help with moving. If I lived closer I would come and direct traffic and take that ancient Paragon off your hands, but alas, Craig’s list will do you well for sure.

    • That’s great news about second showing, Linda! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get an offer you can’t refuse.

I asked a fellow potters guild member if she is interested in the kiln and if she doesn’t want it, I’m going to post it on craigslist tomorrow. It’s not a big one, but would be perfect for bisque firings etc. since she makes her work at home and then fires at the guild.

  • oh moi thats skutts a beauty…and so glad you ‘took the wkd off’.. ha! luck with all the moving of your studio stuff, soo exciting..!

    • hehehe – I’ve been taking more than the weekend off, lol. Now it’s time to kick my butt in gear – would you do me the favor?? ;)

I am looking forward to moving into a larger space and I won’t have to share my half with my husband’s tools, lawn equipment, misc. storage, etc. since we’ll have more space. It’s a good time for me to organize the space more efficiently rather than haphazardly moving in like the last time around.

  • Awe good Luck! And pressure does help things move faster….Careful moving your Skutt, I have one too and you’ll be suprised how quickly you can fill it! You can always have a pottery sale at your new home, meet the neighbors and show off a CLEAN NEW work area before you mess it up! Just in time for the holidays! Hope the RAIN STOPS for your move, can you even BELIEVE this weather in JULY??????

    • Thanks Mary! This is the weirdest weather ever – from 80′s-90′s last week to chilly 53 this morning…. It has to be the wettest and coolest summer in the Denver area that I remember.
