Studio Packed Up!
Warning: this post is rated PG for bodily functions. Just kidding…. Despite being toe deep in mouse poop (ewwwwwe – trying not to think about hantavirus), I managed to edit, pack up and clean out my studio over the past 3 days. I wasn’t sure I could get it all packed up until about 3pm yesterday when I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, rejoiced and picked up the pace in order to reward myself with an ice cold margarita on the patio. I am happy to report that I was enjoying my beverage by 5:00pm yesterday afternoon. Can you believe that it took me 3 full days to clean & pack a space the size of an over sized one car garage? I’m going to be much smarter next time around – famous last words….
It might not look like it – but compared to the before photo:
I’d say I made a ton of progress. I have a large box of stuff to be donated and had so much recyclable material that I filled up our recycle bin and then had to gorilla recycle after dark – secretly adding items to my neighbor’s bins in the alley. Don’t worry, I’m not taking up anyone else’s green space because today is recycle pick up day and the bins will soon be empty.
I also vacuumed my ancient paragon kiln, took photos and listed it for sale on Craigslist: http://denver.craigslist.org/art/1303094075.html
Meanwhile, I plan to tackle all my other art supplies and books today after I head out on a little run. If all goes well, I’m taking my daughter to see Food Inc. later this afternoon because I’ve been dying to see the movie documentary.
Have a great week,
Cynthia

Good job! if I had to pack my studio it would take at least a month, even with the enticement of an ice cold marg!

I thought it would take me longer than it did, but when I finally got down to the business of sorting it went really fast.

I think you need a cat for the mice, or maybe the new renters do, Ha!, good job packing, so nice and neat.

People often ask why I don’t put the studio in the basement of our house and even the “clean” photo shows why. Pottery is so messy! I knew I had mice, but I was still shocked at their little presents. No cats for the renters, though maybe I should encourage them to get one or two?

Just looked at your Paragon, I wish I lived near you I’d rush over and buy that kiln. Mine won’t turn on this am and I don’t know what’s wrong, boo hoo.

Too bad you’re not just around the corner – it would be nice to meet you! I do have a metal worker interested in the kiln. We had a long conversation last night about heating metal to machine tools.

Wow! Great job. I would still be working in it after a week. Mouse poop — yecky yeck. When we redid the floor in the garage attic in Pennsylvania it was all over. I shudder as the sound of it being vaccuumed up is still fresh in my memory.

Luckily, since it is in the garage, I was able to open the over head door and sweep it all outside! We had a dead raccoon in our attic in the house we moved into in Maine. I feel your pain.

I bet that was really hard work to pack up your studio and all your equipment. I can remember when you first set up your garage studio, Cyn. Good luck on the moving and I hope all goes well and easy for you. Lord, I would hate to move, I have a forgotten wasteland of stuff up in the attic here!

I made some mistakes setting up the studio the first time around that I’m hoping to avoid the next time!

ugh.. moving my studio is something every potter dreads.. you have such roots what with kilns and everything else. I’m afraid it would take me more than 3 days to move mine. But.. there’s something very attractive about moving into a new space.. you can reorganize and start fresh.
Good for you, Cynthia. One step closer! Looking forward to seeing you all settled into your new digs.

Fresh is right! While my garage is being drywalled, insulated and wired for my kiln, I’m going to take this time to paint my studio furniture a bright color so that it all looks more cohesive. I’m leaving the metal shelving behind for the tenants and am going to be looking for see through plastic storage bins for my tools and glaze chems so that everything stays neat. I might also paint the garage floor so that clean up is a snap.

Well done with all that clearing up and organising! I bet you can’t wait to set up your new studio.
Sigh. I still need to clean out that old freezer to put my clay in, and my kitchen is becoming impossible (that’s where I’ve been working on my clay – yes, very messy and most probably a health hazard, but you kind of get used to the taste of clay in your food
Just kidding!). I really need to clean out our conservatory, because I hope to get a wheel very soon!

Ahhhh New Beginnings to you! CHEERS!~ I have a lovely garden snake that lives right out side my front porch! I named her Fiesty cause when I mow the lawn, she sticks up her head and scoots along so I know she is there. No mice since she’s been around and I must say she is looking WELL FED!

Cynthia, if you can clean that muddle that efficiently in that time…I don’t think you need my bust bunny brigade!
