Abstract Landscape Card #10

I’m feeling so much better than I was when I posted this morning. I managed to finish another mini painting and decided to base it on my Poll Results painting from 2 days ago. The abstract landscape is growing on me. This is standard ACEO size, 2.5 x 3.5 inches and is acrylic on 140 lb. paper.

I also found out that I wasn’t offered the job and am relieved. I can now concentrate on making my art and getting my s*** together so that I can present my portfolio to some galleries.

This is available for purchase.

Thinking out loud via my blog

Okay, I’m not actually speaking, but I am writing this in cyber space, so in essence I am saying this out loud, right? I must be feeling a bit nostalgic lately too. I’ve been browsing all of our photographs that we’ve archived on discs and online and came across some oldies but goodies.

This was taken around 1997 at the Grand Canyon in AZ. My husband and I used to camp quite a bit; I think that was before I had my daughter. All of a sudden, it seems like we don’t do quite as much anymore. We camped at the north rim of the canyon because it’s less crowded than the more popular and easily accessible south rim. Not knowing what to expect, one can literally walk right up to the edge and peer over with no fence or rail to impede one’s fall. As he posed for this, I remember my stomach doing serious flip-flops because I was so nervous that he would slip and fall over the edge. Also, being on the north rim means that there are less services and rangers in the event of an emergency.

My husband would most likely kill me for posting the picture…we hadn’t showered for days by this time and were quite grungy.

I’ve had a second interview for a job that I’m not sure that I want. I also got a call back from HR asking me to call them back. Must mean I have the job, right? The only reason I applied is because our family’s budget is demanding it. Why? Because we’ve chosen to live in an expensive area. My husband’s not happy in his job, I’m dreading the thought of working in the corporate world again.

I just want to make art. I’m trying to convince my husband to sell everything and go live somewhere less expensive in the mountains, like Durango, live off the land, off the grid in a yurt. Okay, I’m making the last few things up.

This photo just reminds me of a time when we had less and it took less to make us happy. I want to go back there!

Card #7,#8 and #9 of the 30 Day Painting Challenge

Abstract Poppy

Landscape ACEO

Limes

At 6AM this morning I put on my IPod Shuffle, plugged the ear buds into my head and went to the local park with my dog to exercise. When I got there…about a 10 minute walk, I thought to myself, “my it’s quiet today”. That’s when I realized that I didn’t actually turn on my IPod, I was merely wearing it…indicative of the type of day I’m having! Does your day ever start out weirdly, only to remain so?

I did manage to finish a still-life painting of some limes that were nearing their prime in my fruit bowl. Margaritas anyone? I also started another one, but am going to go outside after I post this and enjoy the day.

Cards #7 (abstract poppy)and #8 (foggy landscape) were completed yesterday, I finished Limes today. All of them were in response to the poll results…I think the only challenge left from the poll is to paint an animal. That would also be a good challenge for me; I’m not sure if I’ve ever painted one before. Thanks again to everyone who voted!

They are all available for auction on eBay.

Poll Results Painting: Untitled Abstract Landscape

If you’re just now reading my blog for the first time, let me get you up to date. Yesterday I ran a poll asking what I should paint today as part of a self imposed 30 day painting challenge. The results: a tie between abstract and landscape. The following is my finished painting offered up 3 ways. Since it’s abstract does it really matter which way it is oriented? Weigh in please.

Abstract Landscape

This turned out to be more difficult than I thought. Do you ever have something in mind and then it doesn’t quite turn out how you imagined? That’s exactly what happened here. I was once again experimenting with some mixed media techniques and kept adding paint, taking it away until finally, something that looked like mountains appeared. Was I looking for them? Maybe. I wasn’t quite happy so I went back in with some graphite to give more definition to some areas. Finally I said to myself, “just STOP”! So here it is.

Or is it a seascape?
Then I turned it upside down and I saw a seascape or lake reflection.

Or just abstract?
And, I don’t mind it sideways either!

This is acrylic paint and graphite on gessoed illustration board. Approximately 4″ x 6″. I would like to see this bigger…a huge riot of color. Sorry I didn’t post earlier.

2 S&T Paintings for the 30 Day Painting Challenge

Koi

Energy and Air

Poll Results:Abstract and Landscape tied!!! Thank you to everyone who voted! I am pleasantly surprised that 24 out of 149 visitors to my blog voted yesterday. My challenge, as I interpret the results, will be to paint an abstract landscape. I will post my painting this afternoon after I finish.

For this morning’s show and tell, painting #1 is Koi, ACEO card #6, and painting #2 is a 5″ x 7″ abstract landscape on canvas board that I worked on yesterday before I knew the poll results. I was playing around with some mixed media techniques and as it was developing, the painting emerged as a landscape. I could cop out and give you this as my poll challenge entry, but I’m not. I’m going to paint new one after having learned what I liked about yesterday’s abstract Landscape.

Koi is available for auction on eBay. The starting bid is $6.99.
