Bird House #33

I’ve been gathering sketches in preparation for making some mini quilted textile aceos in the very near future. This is one of my sketches that is going to become my very first quilt, albeit a small one. It’s a little bit of a departure from my normal paintings of florals and landscapes, but I wanted to add a touch of whimsy to some of my work.

I often look at my daughter’s drawings and wish that I could be more free with my drawings. If I could only just draw and color with no real regard for the actual object. Who cares what it looks like in nature!!!! This is ACEO (art cards editions and originals) sized, 3.5 x 2.5 inches. Acrylic and ink on paper.

Since this is new style for me, I’m starting the bidding at only $1.00!

I really like this one, very whimsical and colorful. I know what you mean about being more free with your drawings. I have been working on the same thing for the past couple of years. It is just so hard to let go!

I have to say that I think you did a great job of it with this one!

    :)

  2. Love the bird house! It is free and whimsical! Plus, it just makes me happy. It’s fun and I’m glad to let go, which, I agree, is harder to do than it looks. Can’t wait to see the quilt!

  3. Thanks Paula and Pinky! You’re right, it is much more difficult to paint and draw like a child…I’m doing it in a deliberate fashion, whereas, my daughter just does it no thinking involved!

  4. Aww this is adorable and I think this is a winner! I love folk art and I bet they will sell really well! This design would make a beautiful quilt too.

  5. Thanks Lyn! I also love folk art and this is my first stab at it. Time will tell how well it does, but I’m thinking positively!
