In addition to the wonderful people I have met through blogging, I have discovered yet another benefit to this activity! If you read yesterday’s post, you’ll remember that I lost all of my documents, photographs and other files that I have accumulated over the past year and a half when my computer crashed on Saturday and I had to reinstall my operating system. I am happy to say that since Saturday, I have managed to restore my computer to a workable state that suits my needs just fine…Yay! But what of my lost photographs? My portfolio?

Guess what? It’s all archived on my blog and Flickr! So, yesterday, I began going through my website, blog and Flickr account and saving photos back onto my hard drive. Not to worry, I am going to back this up after I’m done! I’ve been pretty good about posting regularly and uploading my photographs to either my blog or Flickr or both. Good for me that I’ve left a trail in cyberspace.

It’s a little tedious, but I’m happy that not all is lost. The added benefit is that now I am organizing my photographs more efficiently as well. There are some photographs that are gone forever, but that’s okay, just having some of them back is a relief. The downside to all my computer activity the past few days is that I haven’t done anything creative. I hope to get back to making art work today!

  1. Oh, thank goodness. After I read that I was thinking about the paper trail I’ve left and it’s not very big! I better get to saving.

I hope that you are doing well. Sorry I haven’t gotten to stop by in a while. I really like the new work that you are doing. Are you going to keep doing your pendants? Although I’m getting used to the new look of Etsy, in some ways, I wish they swapped to V2 after Christmas! Sheesh!

  2. No problems Pinky! I know you’ve had a lot of things going on in your life right now.

Hmmm the pendants…My SIL has put in a special order. I’m thinking of making some ceramic pendants.

So happy to hear that you DO have a backup! Computer crashes can totally bring your world to a standstill, I know what you’re going thru! It truly is amazing that I cannot live without it anymore, what DID we do before computers?!

I too have been away from creating for a week or so now. I’m hoping to finish up the big mat order today so I can get back to the studio! Looking forward to seeing your new work!

    :)

  4. Glad to hear you got everything back! Phew! An external drive is always good too. :)

  5. Yay!

  6. I was thinking you had a bunch of images online when I read about your crash, but I was too busy to post an response.

I have huge tif and raw image files on my computer that could not be replaced if I lost everything. And my computer is 5 years old and crashing more often than I’m comfortable with. I really need to 1) back things up 2) buy a new computer. Your problems have me worried!

  7. Oh boy now I am going to back up my computer, something I never have done before. I’m so happy you were able to get your porfolio and art back though, that’s wonderful!!

  8. Everyone, PLEASE, please back your images up! I have some of my photos back, but a lot of family ones are gone. I didn’t really share too many of those on my blog. But, the other thing I have found out…Lisa is right, all my high res images are lost. All I have are the ones that I resized for the web. It’s as easy as burning CDs of your work, they’re cheap enough now a days. Also, the work that I still have I can re-photograph, but what a pain!
