I started this one a couple of weeks ago and then got side-tracked…that does seem to happen a lot don’t you think? I seriously wonder if I have ADHD. And what’s up with the take out theme? I don’t know. I just love take out, especially anything Asian. I even keep the boxes the food comes in, because I just never know when or how I might need to use these. Speaking of which, I used a take out box as my template for this. Pulled it apart and cut my fabric to size.
I knew I wanted to embellish it but was stuck, until the idea of adding an applique of a skull and crossbones came into my head. Who knows how this happens anyway. Connections are made, ideas stored, and presto it seems right. I had started to use embroidery floss to accent the skull and crossbones. But at the rate I was going , I knew it would be a long time before I finished this one. Remember, I have a tendency to have many interests at the same time.
So, after completing my Mona Lisa fabric postcard, and mastering my sewing machine a little more, I decided to machine stitch the rest of the take out box. I did finish this piece with some buttons and French knots in order to close the box. This is currently available for sale on Etsy, unless of course, I change my mind and keep it myself!

This is such an original piece! I can easily say I’ve never seen anything like it! Great work, keep it up. Oh, and I also love the sewn notecards you put in your etsy shop. You never cease to amaze me with your ideas!
Not sure why this reminds me of the recent poisoning of the former Russian spy that has been in the news.
This is cool. Next you know you will have to be making something to put IN the box!
Funny how one idea leads to the next which leads to the next and so on.
Holy Crap!! This is completely and totally awesome!! I have no idea what I would do with this, but I just love it!! WOO! You are seriously busting out with all kinds of creativeness!
O M G I LOVE this! Seriously in love.
I can’t stop looking at it…lol.
Fantastic work Cynthia! Keep these coming!
I would love to have one like this made of something strong enough to hold pens and stuff on my desk. How much??
What a fun imaginative piece cynthia. Each time I come here there is always something cool to look at
Thanks Paula, I think I’m going to make my Holiday cards this year using the sewing technique. Alas, there are other fabric boxes on the market, but they’re mostly purse templates and patterns or cheap imports.
Hey Janet…isn’t that just the most bizarre news coming out about the Russian diplomat and now all the planes and residences contaminated with radiation? It’s like something out of a movie. I wouldn’t want to be living it though!
Thank you Pinky in more ways than one!
Hi Amber : ), so good to see you again! I think I would have to use a stiffer interfacing for this hold pens. I would have to work on that. Good idea!
Jafabrit, I like to think the things that I am making are where fine art, craft and kitch collide! I like having fun and when it starts to feel like work, then I’m done.
BTW, I have to say thank you to everyone who leaves comments! It feels like my birthday every morning when I wake up, grab my coffee and log on to my blog and see what people wrote!
Just went to check out the cards in your etsy shop again and saw that you made 3 sales yesterday! Congrats, that’s great! I made one sale on Etsy yesterday, so I’m happy for me too!!
I really love this concept, Cynthia. You’re very creative!!!
