I’m leaving home tomorrow for a much needed vacation, though not on a jet plane. In the next week, we will attempt to visit Mount Rushmore, The Badlands, Devil’s Tower and Yellowstone National Park. Our mode of transportation: automobile. Our accomodations: tent. I will most likely need a vacation from my vacation when we return after sleeping on the ground with naught but a measly little therma-rest between my body and the ground. You’re right, I need to get in the proper mind-set.
I was talking with my father in law today on the telephony and he asked “What is in the Badlands?” I replied “the largest fossil beds in the world”, but I wonder why ‘bad’ is in the title of the place. I really have no idea what to expect.
In preparation for visiting Devil’s Tower, we watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind the other night just for fun. I seriously doubt we’ll make it to Yellowstone, but my husband thinks it’s a good idea.
Meanwhile, this trio of ceramic houses just came out of my kiln last week, and I’ve posted them for sale in my Etsy Shop. Though, I have to say that I really like them and might keep them for myself. I know I can always make more, but….
Anyway, I’ll see you all in a week… I hope you have a productive and enjoyable week ahead of you!

Love the house wall tiles. It’s so weird but my husband wants to take the exact same route in September, I’ll be waiting for your update! If you can get to Yellowstone, it’s fantastic.
I really like the color and the crackle glaze on the houses.
Have a good trip.
Have a GREAT trip
I agree the colour and crackle glaze is lovely on the houses.
have a fabulous time Cynthia and a well deserved rest…….I’ll be waiting for your update
I am so jealous! I want to go to those places, too. I hope you have a great time=;)
have a great trip…. sounds like a lot for 1 week of vacation though so i understand what you say that you might not make it to yellowstone…. whising you loads of inspiration
Thanks everyone - we’re off now - only a few hours behind our goal of leaving at 8am. Have a good week!
Wonderful work!
*HUGS*
I hope that you have an outstanding time.
The houses are neat and the Bad Lands are called that as they are eroded and a type of soil that doesn’t support plant growth. They are a study in what happens when eroison takes over. Hot, dry and windy most of the time. Still, have a great time.
Ohhh Cyn I hope youall have a safe and fantastically good time on your trip! I’ve been to Mt. Rushmore and it just hard to imagine how huge those things are until you see it IRL! I love your ceramic houses, lovely colors and patterns!
What a wonderful and adventurous vacation. Have a safe one too!
I read your comment on Lisa Call’s blog:
“We wear so many hats in our lifetime that have no clear delineating lines or perscribed working hours. Many overlap, recede, disappear only to emerge again at a later date. Sometimes it’s good to just surrender to the moment and let it be what it is.”
Since I have been struggling with my art lately and also struggling to find the time to actually work on my art, your words really spoke to me. Especially the last part. I make primarily art quilts but I keep finding myself drawn to other mediums lately, besides fabric, and I haven’t really been letting myself explore those other mediums because I am “supposed” to be working with fabric.
I also keep finding that other activities, albeit worthy ones, keep imposing on my “art time.” Maybe I do need to just go with the flow more, and not be freaking out because I am not getting in “enough” studio time. When I am suppose to work in my studio, I will find the time.
I guess I just wanted to say that I really appreciated what you wrote and that it really spoke to me. Thanks!
P.S. You have some really great ceramic art, too, by the way. I am going to have to poke around your blog while I’m here!
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog! I love your work and adore the glaze on your house tiles. Have a great trip!

I was thinking.. you could try out some interesting widgets on your page and spice it up with some great pictures. E.g try out the poster widget on http://www.widgetmate.com with your relevant keywords. It has some of the best images i have ever seen.
Have a great time Cynthia and I can imaginewhat your trip will make you come up with artwise. I’m looking forward to that.
