My daughter had received a post card of Leonardo DaVinci’s painting of the Mona Lisa this past summer, and being the thrifty person that I am saved it for future use. I pulled it out today and decided postcard size was just right! I used my sewing machine to add all the details after I fused the applique onto the base fabric. Of course, I couldn’t copy the painting exactly, and used some liberties with colors based on the fabric that I have on hand.
I wouldn’t mind making some other postcards of other famous paintings/artist either.

This is 3.75″ x 6″ and is ready to be mailed. I currently have this for sale in my Etsy shop.

I deviated a little bit when I made this mini quilted ACEO today. Actually, I had already cut and fused the appliques on last week, but just got around to machine stitching this one. I used some left over scraps from some fabric that I had stamped and painted last week and went from there. I was thinking of all the tic-tac-toe games that I play with my daughter, whenever we have time to kill, when I made this.
Whenever we play I think, Tic-Tac-Toe is really a great metaphor for life. I know, that may sound a little out there…and maybe the tryptophan circulating in my body from all the turkey I ate yesterday, today and tomorrow is making me uber mellow. But, in Tic-Tac-Toe, as in life, a player wins sometimes, loses sometimes or more often than not ends up in a draw…or maintains status-quo.
My daughter is sitting beside me right now and she just remarked when she saw this that, “Hey, somebody should have won!”
Anyway, I deviated in that I machine stitched the whole thing, edges and all. This is currently available for sale in my Etsy Shop.

I’ve been thinking about the Colorado Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art Call for entries for the Kitchen Goddess Exhibition to hang in January 2007 in Lakewood, CO. In my head, I know what I want it to look like, most likely a fiber collage…maybe even a self portrait. However, I am still working out the details.
In the meantime, I was looking for a book from the 1950’s that my mother had given me. While I was in PA helping my mother move this past summer, we were going through some of her cookbooks…many of them decades old. She saved one for me that had an excerpt of how to be a good wife or something to that effect from the 1950’s. I searched high and low and I can’t seem to find the book. I did find a 1950’s Better Homes and Garden Decorating Book that begins…”Dear Homemaker,” that I’ll share with you another day.
In my frustration in not locating the “good wife” book, I turned to the internet and found this image. It is such a hoot to read the tips of the day! After reading the good wife guidelines, I most definitely fail as a good wife and I am pretty sure that I am not a kitchen goddess. Anyone else pass?
